Alamo is a census-designated place (CDP) in Contra Costa County, California, in the United States. It is located in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. As of the 2000 census, the population was 15,626.
The Tri-Valley's unincorporated community of Alamo has nothing to do with the ill-fated 19th century Texas fortress. Instead, it was named by the Spanish in 1850 for the poplar trees that lined San Ramon Creek.
Police services are provided by the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department. Fire and EMS services are provided by the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District.
